I really loved this book from NetGalley in exchange for a review.
This is a story of regret, guilt, denial, divorce, gang activity, family dysfunction...it covers so many emotions, and I found myself reaching for the tissues at several points throughout.
It's the summer before leaving for college and Allie Collins and her family return to Hidden Pines where her little cousin had died in a drowning accident. Returning there has brought her feelings of guilt to the forefront and she is faced with healing once and for all. It takes meeting the "bad boy" Damien to bring her to that point. Damien has a tragic past and baggage of his own but the two of them work together to move through the hurt and anger from their past.
The story is well written and the characters are extremely well developed, and you're kept guessing throughout as to what will happen next. It was very hard to put this book down once I started reading it.
I just discovered there's a prequel to this book, and I WILL be reading it.
A good, fast-paced read, and I highly recommend this book.
